Harmony World Puppet Carnival fills Bangkok with vibrant colours of puppetry arts


          Thailand opened its doors to the world of magical puppetry arts in November for the annual Harmony World Puppet Carnival. This 10-day celebration lasts from 1-10 November, and sees more than 160 troupes of talented puppeteers from 80 countries taking part.          The puppet carnival is now in full swing at several venues around Bangkok. The annual event will conclude on 10 November with the award’s presentation and closing ceremony to be held at the National Theatre.This year’s opening ceremony took place at Sanam Luang in Bangkok’s old quarters or Rattanakosin Island, with the event’s signature parade marching from the Ratchadamnoen Contemporary Art Centre on Ratchadamnoen Road to the main stage at Sanam Luang.          In Photo (above): Mr. Vira Rojpojchanarat, Minister of Culture, graciously presided over the opening ceremony of the Harmony World Puppet Carnival 2014 at Sanam Luang, where he was welcomed by talented puppeteers from around the world. Also present at the event were Mrs. Kobkarn Wattanavrangkul, Minister of Tourism and Sports, and representatives from various public and private stakeholders.          Admission is free to all events and shows during the festival.
