CNN Travel lists Suvarnabhumi Airport among world’s best airport bike paths
The recently opened bike track that loops around Thailand’s main gateway, Suvarnabhumi Airport, has been listed as one of the five best airport bike paths in the world by CNN Travel. Written for CNN as part of a complete coverage on Executive Access, writer Peter Walker listed the bike track at Suvarnabhumi Airport in Bangkok along with those at Kastrup Airport in Copenhagen, Denmark, Lanzarote Airport on the Canary Islands, Spain, Vancouver International Airport in Canada, and Manchester Airport in the UK. In this article, Walker based his inclusion of Suvarnabhumi Airport’s bike track with a hyperlink to a news article published by the Bangkok-based travel trade publication, TTR Weekly, titled ‘Suvarnabhumi opens bike track’ that described the facility as “fast becoming a Mecca for leisure cyclists”. Suvarnabhumi Airport opened its exclusively-designed bike path, which runs along the flood-prevention barrier circling the airport in February 2014 to serve 300 to 500 cyclists who were already biking around the airport. Open daily from 06.00 to 18.00 hrs., the green-painted road surface is covered with a para rubber coating to prevent slips and handle all weather conditions. TAT Governor Mr. Thawatchai Arunyik said, “Bike tourism and leisure cycling is part of TAT’s sports tourism marketing promotion, which banks on many of Thailand’s world-class sports facilities and beautiful scenery. Apart from promoting health, leisure cycling is one of the best ways for tourists to enjoy the magical sights of Thailand’s attractions, here at Suvarnabhumi Airport or elsewhere in the country.” CNN’s Executive Access also listed The Siam as one of the world’s 11 best urban resorts. Published on 2 October, 2014, writer Tina Hsiao wrote, “With the hotel’s art deco design accents, antique collections, a Musee d’Orsay-inspired main building and a restaurant housed in a series of ancient teakwood houses, you’ll soon forget you’re in the heart of a big, chaotic city.” In addition, the report also listed two beer bars in Bangkok among 10 of Asia’s best beer bars. Published on 8 May, 2014, Writer Brian Spencer listed Mikkeller Bangkok – the first bar in Asia of Copenhagen-based Mikkeller – and BREW — Beers & Ciders.
